Event Round-Up – May 2017

May 30, 2017

prothetics and orthotics

We like to keep ourselves busy at Trulife and we love getting out on the road to catch up with our customers and make new connections. This month we were at two fantastic events:

Both conferences were very well attended and they gave our team great opportunities to showcase some of our new orthotic, prosthetic and breastcare products to delegates.

ISPO – International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics

16th World Conference, Cape Town, 8-11 May 2017

Simon and Patrick from the Trulife team were in attendance at the ISPO conference in Cape Town recently. This was the first time ISPO’s flagship event was held in Africa and it was a privilege to be a part of such a prestigious event.

The conference drew professionals from the prosthetic, orthotic, mobility and assistance device industries from all around the world and it highlighted some of the latest products and scientific advancements in these fields.

Over the course of four days, there were a number of fascinating workshops and presentations. It was a perfect opportunity for everyone to network and share ideas with researchers, technicians, manufacturers, doctors and therapists.

The opening ceremony was particularly impressive and included an inspirational lecture by Giles Duley. In 2011, Giles lost both legs and his left arm after stepping on an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Afghanistan while photographing those caught up in the conflict. Thirty operations were needed to stabilise him after he suffered the extensive injuries.

Giles was informed by medics that he would never walk again and that his career was over. However, characteristically stubborn, he refused to accept his diagnosis and told his doctors “I’m still a photographer” and focused on his recovery – ultimately returning to work less than two years later.

Giles has since documented stories in Lebanon and Jordan, and went back to Afghanistan in October, 2012, to complete his original assignment. His return to work was the feature of the award-winning documentary, Walking Wounded: Return to the Frontline. His photography has been featured in numerous papers and magazines, and he has talked about his experiences on television, radio and at several international gatherings.

It was a very emotional and uplifting presentation and one that hit home with everyone at the conference.

It was wonderful to chat with so many enthusiastic people, to discuss our latest innovative products and to get immediate feedback that we can share with the team back at Trulife HQ.

ABS – Association of Breast Surgery

Conference, Belfast, 15 & 16 May 2017

Gerry, Gráinne and Simon from Trulife HQ in Dublin supported by Serita Moore, South East Sales Manager from the UK all attended the ABS Conference in Belfast for two days in May. The Trulife stand was extremely busy during the event and our new ReCover range of breast reconstruction and post-surgery solutions drew a lot of interest from the attendees from the UK and Ireland. Delegates were also very impressed with our external breast sizing kits

There was a lot of discussion around these products. All the university students and patients we chatted with understood how effective our products are and it was gratifying that they could immediately see their full potential.

The ABS Conference had a variety of companies in attendance, operating across a wide selection of  breastcare disciplines, ranging from reconstruction to augmentation.

Until Next Time

Both the ISPO and ABS Conferences gave us a great opportunity to meet with patients and students and to inform them about the latest developments in the medical device field. We also made a lot of new connections and caught up with some familiar faces. Watch out on our website for a heads-up on events we will be attending in the future – we might see you soon!
